Nose for Nosh: The Cereal Bowl DC

Attention: DC Cereal Connoisseurs!
Saturday, March 27th was the Grand Opening of Cleveland Park's latest addition; The Cereal Bowl.

I was there.

As a cereal lover, I was quite anxious (super-duper-pressed) to make my way 'cross town to check it out. I'm usually pretty plain with my cereal (honey on Cheerios, light sugar & bananas on Cornflakes, nothing but 2% milk on my Cinnamon Toast Crunch, etc.), so this was a stretch for me.

Pretty good!

Basically, The Cereal Bowl is Cold Stone Creamery for cereal.

The staff was quite friendly and helpful in explaining the concept, menu options and such. I thought it was fitting that they wore pajamas and crocks as "uniform". Comfy and cute. I should've taken a pic.

I was able to get a few pics while standing in line. I'm sure I was getting on everyone's nerves, posing as if I knew what I was doing. **Disclaimer: I'm no professional, so you're not allowed to laugh.

Here:
The wind was WILD that evening, so I had a time trying to encourage (i.e., yelling) the balloons to hold still. 4 shots later, it worked.
Menu options.

Cereal options.

Toppings: fresh fruit, craisins, nuts, sprinkles, chocolate chips, marshmallow, chocolate syrup, gummy worms, etc.

Lucky for us, substitutions are allowed for toppings and cereal. That's your time to shine and get creative.

Create-a-Box: Like what you had? Take it "to go". To share or not to share. That is the question. I already know my answer; "NO. I'm not sharing."

Juice options: First of all, who knew they still produced Orangina AND Yoo Hoo!? (I sure didn't)

They also have Oaties (Oatmeal + Smoothies), which looked good. Too bad I didn't get a picture or sample. Coffee and hot chocolate are available for those who want something hot.

"The Sweetest Thing": Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Lucky Charms, sprinkles & crushed Vanilla Wafers (which I substituted for strawberries). These are like my Top 3 of 5 favs. I never thought to combine them. Talk about delish! This is probably gonna be my staple order, going forward.

Damage: $3.29 for a small bowl ($.39/per additional topping)

Random, Off-topic Movie Moment: Eating here was better than watching 2007's 'Flakes' (Zooey Deschanel, Aaron Standford) -- which I couldn't get past the first 30 minutes of.

Anywho!

Overall, everything was really good! Its a cute, novel idea that I can't imagine getting old. There's something for everyone (from toddler to seasoned cereal lovers) and its a good stop to make on your way in.

The OpenTable Appetite Stimulus Plan!

OpenTable.com has done it again!

Please & thank you!!

I appreciate the strong responses & support that I've received so far. And you never know when I might ask YOU to be my Rate Date <<-- I just made that up, BTW. Hope it wasn't too cheesy. LOL :-)

For those of you NEW to planet Earth & aren't familiar with OpenTable.com, let me give you the run-down: Basically, its an "online reservation station" (my words, not theirs) available for most of the major cities within the U.S., Canada & international countries. You accumulate Dining Points (at least 200) per HONORED (which means you actually have to show up ON TIME) reservation.

Depending on your point status, you can redeem them for Dining Cheques. Some establishments offer Bonus Points (1,000 points) for dining. Oh joy! Its so cool. I use it all the time. (Can you tell?!)

To date, I have about 2,100 points :-)  I'm saving mine up for a "big deal". Yeah, I know. I'm pressed/anxious/hungry. Call me what you'd like, but you can't call me 'pointless'! LOL :-P

Also, you can make multiple reservations at once, receive confirmation, a reminder, rate your favorite places to dine, as well as send an invitation to guests.  You can also search for your favorite type of restaurant (Italian, American, Japanese), as well as special offers & events (Sunday brunch, buffet, large groups, etc). There's also a feature that allows you to make a special request to the Maître d' (perfect for surprises!!)

Whenever someone asks for a recommendation, I always give them something that I found (and tried) on OpenTable.

When you get a chance, seriously, check it out.
